I’m giving away invites to Spock, a new social search site.
I see spock as a way to control what people will find when they search for your name online. For instance when you search for Andy Schworer the first link isn’t this blog or even one of my other webpages. With spock you have the option to provide as little or as much info about yourself as you’d like. I’m not sure if google will be able to index spock or not.
They also claim to have “…over one hundred million people already indexed and millions added every day…” So, it seems they indexed the web, or used google results, to pre-populate the spock search with people. If you find yourself already in the spock universe, like my dad, you have the option to “claim: this is me!” the entry and I assume control it as your own. I’m not sure how spock validates that you should have control of an entry.
If you’d like an invite leave a comment to this post. I’ll send invites to the first 3 people on the comments thread: those people must invite at least 3 more people and so on. Once you’ve sent an invite to someone, reply to their comment with a phrase like “@Name: Invite Sent!â€. Due to the way Spock works, you’ll also need to provide your first and last name in order to get an invite.

Andy, that’s great!
I tried to get a glimpse at spock myself, but it didn’t work out without an invitation. I am so curious… so thnx so much
I dunno about this Spock Sheeit,
but I’ll buy ya a Beer if you buy Me a Husband! Deal?
Here are my prereqs: 6′ min height requirement, must have an income of some sort (preferably something legal), must be comfortable wearing clothing from J.Crew & Banana Rep. & the occasional pink shirt, unmarried, over the age of 18, 2 arms, 2 legs, (I know, I know… I’m super picky…) & I’d like the marriage to last so maybe they best be DEAF…
Thank you!
=)
Hi, I would really like an invite as I see a huge potential in Spock, so PLEASE email me one?
Cheers
It may not be so hard to get an “invite,” after all. I’m incredibly annoyed at Spock right now.
In signing up, Spock asks for access to your email address book (Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail), insisting — like most respectable social networks do — that it’s only going to check for people you know who have already opted in and registered for their site. I did this a week ago, and of course didn’t find many contacts on Spock at the time. I poked around a bit, then forgot all about it.
Well, earlier today, Spock went ahead and spammed all my contacts with Spock invites… and in Gmail, that’s a lot of people, many of whom were only one-off correspondents. I even got invites sent to my other e-mail accounts, telling me I’ve invited myself.
This is bad, bad form for a site like this, and doesn’t help it fight the ominous cloud many sense over what it’s trying to do.
